One group of LOC Hospitality’s apartments is located in the heart of the Old Town of Corfu, in Campiello. It was originally the neighborhood were the inherent Jews of Corfu, known as Romaniotes, used to live and work. Campiello was a hill and was referred to in the bibliography as “Kabeelou”, “Oprivouni”, “Jewish Mountain”, “Hebraida”. In 1524 the Enetian administration decided to move the Jews from the area and forced them to settle in Spilia, where now one can find the Jewish Synagogue, fact that explains the name locals gave to the district, Evraiki (Jewish).
Campiello is a unique and wonderful complex of residences with narrow alleys and unexpected square, where time has different dimensions. It was used as scenery for many and popular films as long as theme for great paintings, such as those of famous Corfiot painter Angelos Gialinas and his students.
It is a magical labyrinth of architectural beauty and is the place where the heart of Corfu beats!!
